Lesson Learned!
I have read with interest the recent debate regarding Southend High Street. I have listened to how Southend Council is keen to encourage visitors to Southend on sea.
I live in Rochford but thought last Sunday as the sun shone I would visit Southend, parking near Old Leigh to take a stroll along the front and purchase some seafood. Imagine my dismay when returning to my car I was greeted by a parking ticket.
I was not alone, there were several (about 20 !) other dismayed visitors returning to find the same greeting.
My visit to Southend had now cost me an extra £25.00!
I completely admit to not reading the sign as it was Sunday. You see I live in Rochford and we are used to FREE parking on Sundays.
So to all who read the Echo next time you fancy a Sunday out then visit Rochford. It has many 'free' attractions such as Hockley woods and the beautiful new Cherry Orchard park. Also if High Street shopping is your preference then Rayleigh High Street has all the big high street names together with the ambiance that a smaller (but perfectly formed) town can provide.
There s a lesson here for Southend that if you treat your residents and visitors well they will return to your High Streets and attractions, if not they will go where they do feel welcomed.
